1. Is Gudsy a CRM? Do we have to replace anything?
Gudsy is not limited to being a donor CRM, and it does not require you to replace your current systems on day one. It is a self-service, low-touch community outreach and engagement platform that can, over time, serve as a central hub for supporter data and activity if your organization chooses to use it that way.
You can start by using Gudsy to:
- Present a verified public profile for your organization.
- Share updates and opportunities in a place supporters can return to.
- Route donations through your existing payment accounts (e.g., PayPal).
- Offer constituents a consistent way to discover, follow, and engage with your work.
If and when it makes sense, you may gradually adopt more of Gudsy’s capabilities to complement or, where appropriate, consolidate parts of your existing CRM and engagement tools.
2. Who owns the donor relationship and data?
Your organization owns its supporter relationships and the donor records associated with gifts made to your organization. When someone gives to you through Gudsy using your payment account:
- They are your donor.
- You receive the information you would reasonably expect from a direct online gift. For details, see Gudsy Data & Trust.
3. How does Gudsy use data?
Gudsy uses data to operate the platform, process donations securely, display donors’ own giving history, display your organization’s relevant transactions, and maintain security and required audit logs. We may use aggregated, anonymized analytics to improve reliability and usability. Gudsy does not sell, rent, or trade donor data and does not expose your donor list to other organizations.
4. Will Gudsy recommend other nonprofits to our donors?
Gudsy provides donor-driven discovery tools (e.g., search by cause or geography). These features are optional and based on supporter intent; they are not powered by sharing one organization’s identifiable donor list with another.
5. How do donations flow? Who is the merchant of record?
Donations are processed through your connected payment account (e.g., PayPal) under your processor’s terms. Your organization is treated as the merchant of record. Donations appear in your payment provider’s reporting and in Gudsy’s reporting for your organization.
6. What about state charitable solicitation rules?
Gudsy is designed to respect state and jurisdictional requirements. You can configure where you actively solicit (for example, limiting certain calls-to-action or donation options by state, where applicable). Your organization remains responsible for its own registration and compliance policies; configuration in Gudsy is intended to support—not override—those policies.
7. How much work is it to get started?
Typical steps:
- Claim and verify your organization.
- Connect your existing payment account.
- Complete your public profile.
- Share updates as appropriate.
No custom development is required to establish and maintain your presence on Gudsy.
8. What does Gudsy cost? Are there hidden fees?
Pricing is published and designed to be straightforward. Gudsy does not monetize by selling donor lists or trading data. See the Pricing page for current details.
9. If we leave Gudsy, what happens to our data and our donors’ records?
- Your organization’s records: You retain donor and transaction data related to your organization. Gudsy retains only what is required for legal, accounting, and security purposes, plus anonymized analytics.
- Donor accounts and giving history: Donors own their profiles and personal giving history. If your organization departs, donors may continue using Gudsy to manage their own records, including gifts made to other organizations. For legal, accounting, and donor-reliance reasons, Gudsy does not delete a donor’s personal giving history at the request of a third party.
- Data requests: Donor privacy and deletion requests are honored in accordance with applicable law and our published policies.
10. After our subscription ends, how does Gudsy protect persistent data?
If your subscription ends, Gudsy continues to safeguard any retained records required for donors’ needs and for legal, accounting, and security obligations. The same protections apply to those records as when you were an active customer.
11. Is Gudsy compatible with our current tools?
Yes. Gudsy is designed to complement existing systems. It does not require you to change your CRM, website, email platform, or payment processor.
